FAQ
Can you paint more than one pet in a single portrait?
Yes!
Can you paint people?
Yes, of course. I can paint people, with or without pets.
I can't get my pet(s) to pose for a reference photo. What can I do?
I always ask my clients to send me more than a single photo, if possible. Send me the photos you have, and I may give you tips on how to take better shots. If you are commissioning a portrait with more than one pet, you can send me separate images of each pet.
How much will my portrait cost?
Each portrait is quoted individually, and the cost mostly depends on number of subjects and the size. To give you an idea, right now 8"x10" oil on canvas single pet head study will cost around $300.
What size portrait should I order?
You want your portrait to be large enough to see your pet's personality, yet not too big for your interior. You also don't want the portrait to be much larger than life size. 8"x10", 11"x14" and 12"x16" are very popular sizes for a head study. 12"x16" is a good size for a full body portrait of a smaller pet. For two pets, I recommend 12"x16" and larger, for three pets, 16"x20" and up. I will work with you to choose a right size to fit your subject, your interior, and your budget.
What if I want a large scale portrait of a small pet?
As I mentioned, I would not recommend portraying your pet much larger than life size. However, if your interior calls for a large painting, we always find a solution. A small dog or cat can be a focal point of a large painting, depicted in interior or landscape setting — for example, on their favorite piece of furniture, on a balcony or a windowsill with the background view, etc. I will work with you to create a composition to suite you, your pet personality, and your home.
Do you offer a payment plan?
I ask for one third of the portrait price with your order, one third when underpainting is done, and the balance upon completion and your approval before the painting is shipped. Actual shipping cost is extra and also due at this time. Other arrangements can be made upon request.
What forms of payment you accept?
I accept personal and bank checks, money orders, credit cards (Visa, MC, AmEx, Discover), PayPal, and Venmo.
How soon can I have my portrait done?
Depending on my schedule, smaller scale portraits (up to 16"x20") take up to 2-3 weeks to complete, plus shipping time. Large scale paintings may take 2 months or more and will be quoted individually.
Please contact me with any other questions you may have. I look forward to working with all of you.
